Reflections on lost time and money - what does English have to do with it?

Lost time and money

I know that many of you would like to go abroad or work for an international company, so you are planning to learn a language. The key word is here planning, and not starting. Let's look at different scenarios.

Well, there isn't any job offer yet, and there's nobody who could invite you abroad. You are not invited, because you do not leave a resume yet, and you also understand that you will not pass a job interview in English. Or maybe you were invited to a job interview in the past, but the level of your English was not good enough, so you refused yourself or they refused you.

I have really bad news for you: I won't even try to present life in rose-colored glasses.

The fact is that for work, the needed level of the language is higher than just for traveling. If you plan to work in an international company, then you will probably hear around 30 different accents. If you want to work in IT, you need specialized English, it is more difficult than general English. If you're planning to work with people - then you will need a confident level of informal spoken language, so that you will use idioms and units and your brain will not freeze when giving answers.

In order for you to pass the interview successfully, you need a very confident level of English. It is such a specialist who will be paid money because, besides the fact that he is a professional, there will be no problems in communication with him.

That was one bad news, but there is even worse news for you.

If your goal is to earn money and a brilliant career, then you need to study the language now, and quite efficiently. Every month that you miss is important because career growth is more than just a take-off. The sooner you move to an international company, the higher the chance that you will have time to realize your professional ambitions and receive a decent salary.

Moreover, in a new workplace, you will have something to do: you will have to get used to the team and understand your new responsibilities. It will be difficult for the locals to constantly adjust to your pace of speech or speak more slowly.

So, what are you waiting for?

We had cases at school when a person was waiting for a position until they improved their English. So I had to work very hard to make it happen! A lot of nerve cells died in both the students and us. And we managed finally together.

And if I was able to at least somehow immerse you in thoughts - is it true, what am I waiting for, because work will not change itself? - that's great.

It just hurts me to see you waste your money and opportunities. In general, the fastest way to understand at least what level you are now and what kind of learning path awaits you is to sign up for a crash Course at our school and get some advice from your beloved teacher and mentor Ursula Stein.
